the yard work we did yesterday (and are sore from today) is being enjoyed during daylight savings. one thing we miss about our old house is our backyard... deep & private backing up to railroad tracks. but we have more yardspace now thanks to a bunch of trimming & leaf blowing by ben yesterday. there is even talk [ok maybe just dreams] of a tiny compost pile & maybe some chickens? you may remember my post last year about us considering these backyard chickens when i was craving baby chicks like these [LOVE these shots of G&olivia last easter] & a coop we saw at bradford farm here. now that eggs are my staple protein... it's even more appealing. we are allowed 4 hens per home in davidson according to my friend jen. this would be a good time to get some... just before easter! we.shall.see.

MALIBU.

ben & i went to malibu with some friends for summer staff in 2004 i think. he was the trash man. i was the store girl. he sorta got chased by a black bear & broke his insulin pump. he used to bring me fresh canadian cherries for snacks. i hit my head on a rock playing capture the flag. ben caught me a purple starfish the size of a frisbee. the lodge built by bob goff was not quite complete. terri, the property mangers wife taught me to appreciate ancient books in addition to new ones. we kayaked in the princess louisa inlet. boated & hiked to chatterbox falls & basecamp for beyond malibu. we soaked in the awe of our Creator & His beauty moment by moment. ben formed a sweet friendship with the trash boy, his workcrew counterpart. we met people all along the west coast & beyond. every morning, the fog rose slowly on the water where snowcapped mountains shot up into the fluffy white clouds. the air is so fresh&pure you breathe in Jesus. i wanted to bottle it up. we were in heaven on earth. this was the summer we first talked about marriage. when we left camp on the malibu princess boat, i remember tears welling up in my eyes... wondering if we would ever come back to this place.... this summer, ben gets to take 50+ high schoolers & leaders from hough high in lake norman this june.
